Tuesday saw Great Britain take on European Champions, Russia, at the 2014 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championship.

The first set proved disappointing for GB who struggled to cope with the speed and power of the Russian attack as they raced to a 25-6 victory.

The second set was much more positive for the girls who traded points well in the opening exchanges and lead the set at 6-4 and trailed narrowly 8-7 at the first technical timeout. The Russians then showed their serving power and raced into 16-8 lead at the second technical timeout. In the final third of the set, GB were again competitive and reached 13 points before Russia closed out the set.

The third set again started well for GB who exchanged points well and again trailed by only one at the first timeout and continued the pattern through to 9-9. Unfortunately for GB it was the same story as the second set and Russia pulled away with some strong serving to take the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

Immediately after the match attention turned to today’s game against Finland. Having beaten the team earlier, GB are confident going into the game that they can secure the victory that will leave them just one win away from the top 8.
