Following last year’s success in raising more than £1million worth of external funding, Volleyball England is delighted to announce that a further injection of £500,000 has been raised.

Through the successful bidding from a range of funding streams, the additional cash will be shared back into the volleyball community.

“This further demonstrates that our partners are absolutely committed to contributing to our ambitions of building a sustainable long term future for volleyball in England,” said Lisa Wainwright, chief executive of Volleyball England.

“The collaboration of the volleyball community and its partners to secure much needed local funds is an exceptional accomplishment. The money will be pumped back into our clubs, members, coaches, referees as well as area and regional associations, to develop and grow our sport.”

One of the grants came from the Sport England Charitable Trust, which will be used to aid the recovery of injured services personnel, by delivering a sitting volleyball programme at five specialist recovery centres in England.

The recovery centres provide crucial support for those wounded, injured and sick from across the Armed Forces.

In addition to providing training and competition opportunities, the grant will be used to train some of the participants to become coaches, to further their chances of employment on recovery.

“We are focused on delivering our strategic ambitions to positively embed Volleyball into everyday life,” added Lisa. “I would like to sincerely thank all of our external partners who have generously contributed to our fantastic sport.”
